We are delighted to announce the upcoming 2024 Annual Meeting of the Governors’ Climate and Forests Task Force (GCFTF), which will be held in the vibrant region of Ucayali, Peru from October 7th to 11th. This significant event promises to be a cornerstone in advancing global and regional collaboration towards sustainable forest management and the development of a New Forest Economy, building up on our previous meetings where we launched the Manaus Action Plan, our governors’ call to action at COP28 and our most recent technical meeting in Santa Cruz, Bolivia.
The 14th annual meeting will kick off with an important session by the IPLC Global Committee, reflecting our commitment to inclusivity and the vital role of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities in our initiatives. The comprehensive agenda spans five days filled with strategic discussions, technical exchanges, and insightful field visits.
Key Highlights of the Week:
- October 7th: The IPLC Global Committee will convene for an ordinary session, setting the stage for a week of profound dialogues and decision-making.
- October 8th: A full-day Indigenous People’s Summit will feature presentations from the Peru Regional Committee and the Global Committee, highlighting the contributions and insights of over 300 Indigenous participants from national and international backgrounds.
- October 9th: Participants will engage in field validation visits for investment-ready projects, showcasing Ucayali as a model for implementing sustainable practices in the forestry sector.
- October 10th: The Governors’ General Assembly (Business Meeting) gathers for its session to deliberate on strategic directions and upcoming initiatives.
- October 11th: Public sessions including an opening plenary, various panels, and high-level announcements expected to shape the future of forest conservation.
Each session is carefully designed to facilitate robust discussions, foster partnerships, and highlight innovative practices. The meeting not only serves as a platform for sharing knowledge but also for making strategic decisions that influence global forestry policies.
This year, special provisions are being made to accommodate the participation of governors and delegates amidst travel restrictions due to electoral cycles in Indonesia and Mexico, ensuring that all members can contribute to these critical conversations.
Stay tuned for more updates, including detailed information on how to register and participate in this transformative event. We look forward to welcoming our distinguished guests and participants in Ucayali, where together, we will chart a sustainable path forward for our forests and communities.
