Climate Pathways Project
The Climate Pathways Project supports our states and regions to develop long-term decarbonization strategies for major economic sectors while supporting their social and economic development goals. This project is a pioneer effort to develop jurisdictional decarbonization pathways for states that have significant emissions in the Agriculture, Forestry and Land Use (AFOLU) Sector, and the knowledge and resources developed in GCF Task Force states participating in the project will create an important example for other states and regions.
The project provides technical assistance to the governments of Amazonas, Mato Grosso, São Paulo (Brazil), Madre de Dios (Peru) and Quintana Roo and Queretaro (Mexico) to: (1) develop a baseline for economy-wide greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in five major sectors (Energy, Transport, AFOLU, Residential/Commercial/Industry, Waste) up to 2050; (2) develop a priority list of actions to reduce emissions long term; and (3) model the emissions reductions from the pathway. Collaborating with government agencies, the private sector, civil society, academic institutions and representatives of Indigenous Peoples and local communities, the project seeks to inform and build consensus around pathways, and form the basis for governments to achieve their long-term emissions reductions and climate commitments. The project will also disseminate knowledge and experiences of the states and regions to broader networks and coalitions of states and regional governments.
The Climate Pathways Project is led by The Climate Group. The GCF Task Force is an implementing partner along with state environmental agencies in each region, Winrock International, the Center for Climate Strategies and Libelula.

Ana Paula Ferez
Country Consultant – Cuiaba, Brazil
Biography
Ana Paula joined GCF Task Force to work for the 2050 Deep Decarbonization Pathways in the state of Mato Grosso, Brazil. She has been working in the Amazon region since 2012 as a researcher and carbon analyst in the design and monitoring of forest carbon projects and jurisdictional REDD+ programs within private and non-governmental institutions. Her experience is working with applied research on initiatives that generate significant and measurable environmental benefits and services, looking for improved outcomes from climate change mitigation strategies. In Mato Grosso State, her experience is focused on generating strategic information to support the development of climate policies to subsidize the decision making of public actors, as well as facilitating processes in the coordination of working groups on technical tools for REDD+ framework planning at subnational level. She has a MsC. in Silviculture and Forest Management and a Bachelor’s degree in Forest Engineering—both from the University of São Paulo (ESALQ/USP) with expertise in carbon and forest biomass estimates and land use change emissions inventory.
Daniel Coronel
Country Consultant – Lima, Peru
Biography
Daniel Coronel has more than six years of experience in public policy related to climate change, forest conservation and biodiversity management (with an emphasis on agricultural and forestry business models and strategic planning and financing). With studies in economics, he has a master’s degree in Environmental Management. Daniel has been technical advisor to the German Cooperation (GIZ) in Peru in the area of native biodiversity management and sustainable forest management. In addition, he has been Deputy Coordinator of the GCF Task Force and has accompanied the coordination in Peru in strengthening spaces formed by government, business and civil society to support forest conservation policies such as the Regional Amazon Commonwealth, the Bosques del Norte Platform, and the Coalition for Sustainable Production. He has also contributed to the design and implementation of commitment and incentive tools at the sub-national level to involve companies and producers with forest conservation. He also serves as Deputy Coordinator for Peru of the Tropical Forest Alliance. Currently, with the GCF Task Force, he is the national advisor for the Climate Pathways project.
