The GCF Task Force Brazil took part in a meeting promoted by the Brazilian Ministry of Environment with the objective of aligning and coordinating actions around the National REDD+ Strategy, which was created to measure, report and recognize native forest conservation and recovery efforts to enable the receiving of international resources.
Participants in the meeting included Eduardo Taveira, President of the Steering Committee of GCFTF Brazil and Secretary of Environment of Amazonas, Mauren Lazzaretti, Secretary of Environment of Mato Grosso, representatives of the Rondônia Secretary of Environmental Development, which also represent the states of the Legal Amazon in the National Commission for REDD+ (CONAREDD), as well as government entities and cooperation and civil society agencies, such as KFW, GIZ, Earth Innovation Institute and Conservation International.
Among the main meeting topics, highlights include the effort led by the Ministry of Environment to promote the eligibility of all states to receive international resources through the REDD+ mechanism, expanding the lines of climate finance for the Amazon. Today, only Acre and Mato Grosso are eligible to receive this type of resources. At the meeting, the Ministry also shared information related to the global dialogue process related to the regulation of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.
