Oscar Gerardo Montes Barzón is Governor of Tarija, Bolivia. He has a degree in economics from Universidad Autónoma Juan Misael Saracho.
Prior to being elected Governor of Tarija, he was elected Mayor of the Autonomous Municipal Government of Tarija during three consecutive administrations from 2000 to 2015. He has also held important positions in institutions such as: Fundación Acción Cultural Aclo; Instituto de Investigaciones y Capacitación Campesina IICCA; Proyecto Múltiple San Jacinto; Yacimiento Petrolíferos Fiscales Bolivianos. He served as former President of the Civic Committee of the Department of Tarija; and Vice President of the Federation of Municipal Associations of Bolivia (FAM).
