Ted Gehr is the Mission Director of USAID/Brazil. He has worked for USAID for over 30 years. Prior to arriving in Brazil in 2019, Mr. Gehr served as Mission Director in Nicaragua (2015-2019) and Deputy Mission Director in Peru (2012-2015). He also served as Deputy Mission Director in Pakistan, heading up the Provincial Office in the Punjab (2011-2012). Mr. Gehr served as USAID’s Senior Development Advisor to the U.S. Pacific Command (2008-2011). He was a Program and Project Development Officer in USAID overseas field missions in India (2004-2008), Bolivia (2000-2004), the Dominican Republic (1996-2000) and Egypt (1992-1996). Prior to joining USAID, Mr. Gehr served as a Professional Staff Member on the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, where he focused on Latin America (1990-1992). He also served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Costa Rica (1985-1987). Mr. Gehr has a Masters in International Affairs from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs. He received a Bachelor’s degree, majoring in Political Science and Spanish, from the University of Oregon.
