As part of the collaboration between the GCF Task Force Indonesia and CDP (see here for more information on the launch of this partnership), a series of Focus Group Discussions (FGD) was organized in all seven GCF Task Force member provinces in Indonesia. The FGDs assisted the provinces in preparing their responses to CDP’s 2023 States and Regions (S&R) questionnaire and facilitated the discussion about and project data collection for the development of the Jurisdiction Collaboration Window. These are selective lists of information on potential climate and forest-related activities in each province that are open for collaboration with other partners/stakeholders and for investment.
The FGD series started in Jayapura, Papua, on May 9, 2023, followed by events in Aceh, West Papua, Central Kalimantan, West Kalimantan, and North Kalimantan in the subsequent weeks. It concluded in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan on June 21, 2023. The FGDs were attended by GCF Task Force delegates in each respective province and more than 100 representatives from various relevant agencies such as the Environment Agency, Forestry Agency, Planning and Development Agency, and Regional Disaster Management Agency.
In every province, the GCF Task Force Country Director for Indonesia and CDP’s Senior Engagement Officer for States and Regions in Indonesia, delivered introductory presentations on GCF Task Force work and the CDP reporting platform. GCF Task Force technical experts then facilitated discussion in completing the questionnaire and identifying potential activities for the Collaboration Window.
The last FGD in East Kalimantan was also attended by CDP’s State and Region Coordinator from the United Kingdom office, who explained scoring methodology to be piloted this year, which is intended to support provinces improve their data transparency, and develop more robust climate change related plan, implementation, and monitoring.
Upon conclusion of the FGD in East Kalimantan, GCF Task Force and CDP personnel visited the site of the new Indonesia capital to be, Nusantara, accompanied by personnel of East Kalimantan’s Environmental Agency and Regional Climate Change Council.
