In their final official business for the 13th Annual Meeting of the GCF Task Force in Merida, Yucatan, delegates of the nearly 40 governments present agreed on who will be the next Chairs (and meeting hosts) of the GCF Task Force after 2023. While Papua, Indonesia had been planning to host another meeting later this year, for political reasons, they have had to withdraw for the time being. Yucatan will continue in the Chair role through the rest of this year.
In 2024, the GCF Task Force will be hosted for its Annual Meeting in Ucayali, Peru and for a technical exchange in Santa Cruz, Bolivia.
In 2025, Acre, Brazil will take over as Chair and host. Delegates also agreed that if Papua is still interested in hosting for 2026, then they will automatically be the 2026 Chair; otherwise, a new Chair will be discussed and voted on during the meeting in Acre.
This vote represents a great deal of discussion, debate, and ultimately of alignment across our broad network, and we look forward to reconvening for our next Annual Meeting in Peru. Congratulations to all of our upcoming GCF Task Force Chairs!
