On Tuesday, October 8, the Governors’ Climate and Forests Task Force 14th Annual Meeting kicked off in a huge way, with nearly 1,000 participants, for a Summit entitled: Recognition of the Contribution of Indigenous Peoples to the New Forest Economy. Hosted at the Universidad Nacional de Ucayali, this day was organized by the Regional Government of Ucayali, the Mancomunidad Regional Amazonica, and the Grupo Peru of Indigenous Organizations (AIDESEP, ANECAP, CONAP). The day started with a remembrance of Indigenous leaders and forest defenders who were tragically assassinated over the last year, as well as all the lives lost to the devastating fires throughout the Amazon now.
Throughout the day, panelists presented on the incredible work they and their communities are leading in Peru, throughout the Amazon, and globally. Full agenda of the day is available here.
