This workshop and high-level event with governors from the Governors’ Climate and Forests Task Force (GCF) will bring together leaders from subnational governments, civil society, Indigenous Peoples and community organizations, as well as companies. The goal of this day is develop concrete actions in response to the “Balikpapan Challenge,” a process launched at the GCF’s 2017 Annual Meeting in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, which strives to integrate and scale efforts to curb tropical deforestation, advance the rights and livelihoods of indigenous peoples and local communities, and implement the finance mechanisms for inclusive, low emission development in tropical forest states and provinces around the world. The day will begin with focused, invitation-only Working Sessions, followed by a high-level panel of GCF governors, corporate and indigenous leaders discussing their commitments and aspirations as part of the two-year process and public reception.
