Today, Governor Helder Barbalho of the State of Para, Brazil, announced an agreement, worth an estimated $180 million, with the LEAF Coalition. This is huge news for moving forward on jurisdictional approaches to reducing tropical deforestation and attracting important climate finance to benefit the people and forests of Pará. As a key member of the GCF Task Force in Brazil, we congratulate Governor Barbalho and the entire Pará team for this announcement!
Carbon markets are an important component of recognizing and driving ambitious jurisdictional strategies to design a transformative New Forest Economy that can enable our network to tackle the climate, biodiversity, and economic crises we are facing together. Congrats as well to all who have been engaged in helping this process! LEAF Coalition members, Emergent, and so many more.
