The Governors’ Climate and Forests (GCF) Task Force hosted a dialogue in collaboration with the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) and Coca-Cola on August 9th as a part of the Amazon Summit in Belém, Brazil. Representing pan-Amazonian members of the global GCF Task Force network, Brazilian State Secretaries of Environment joined with subnational governmental representatives from Peru and Colombia in a lively and frank discussion that focused on what states need to promote private social investment and bioeconomy across the Amazon. These subnational perspectives were complemented by national and international perspectives, led by the Secretary of Bioeconomy from the Brazilian Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MMA) and the Secretary General of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO). Furthermore, the themes of people and communities; Knowledge, technology and innovation; finance, investment and private sector; and Governments and public policies align directly with several of the principles of the recent Belém Declaration, and also complement state-level bioeconomy planning underway by particular GCF Task Force members.
